Fibroid Symptoms
*          Long menstrual period:

            Period may last more than seven days and menstrual flow may be very heavy. Heavy menstrual flow can sometimes lead to anaemia.

*          Pressure on other organs: Large fibroids may press on organs in the pelvic
         
            - A basin-shaped cavity in the lower abdomen, containing the bladder, bowel, and reproductive organs.


            - If fibroid press on the bladder: A woman may feel the urge to urinate frequently. She may pass only small amounts of urine and she may feel as though she has not completely emptied her bladder.
         
            - If fibroid press on the bowel, she may feel constipated suffering from difficult, painful, or infrequent movement of the bowels, or full after eating only a small amount of food.

         - If fibroid press on one or both ureters (the tubes connecting the kidneys to the bladder). They may partially block the flow of urine. A woman may not be aware of this, because it often isn’t painful. Over time, however, this kind of blockage can lead to kidney infections or other serious kidney damage.

*         Pelvic Pain

            The pressure of large fibroids on other organs may cause pain in the pelvic. Sometimes, if fibroid do not get the blood flow they need to sustain themselves, they degenerate or die. This may cause severe pain lasting for days or weeks. Pain may also occur if the stalk of a fibroid twists, cutting off blood supply to the fibroid. Rarely, a fibroid may become infected and cause pain.

Migraine requires special attention and one should seek advice from doctor on what to medicate on.

5. Aneurysm: When someone experience a sudden pain in the head. This kind of pain can look like migraine or cluster headache, sometimes accompanied by a stiff neck, loss of consciousness, and double vision.

6. Tumour induced headache: This type of headache is rare. Some symptoms of a brain tumour might include numbness or weakness of limbs, disturbed vision, epileptic fits, slurred speech, and poor balance.

1. Ice Pack: This can be done with use of ice pack, a cold towel, or anything that really cold. This technique should help reduce any inflammation when apply to the back of the neck or wherever the pain is located and allow it to sit for about 5 to 10 minutes.

WHAT IS PAIN


According to the Encarta Dictionary; pain is the acutely unpleasant physical discomfort experienced by somebody who is violently struck, injured, or ill.

Pain is a complicated process that involves an intricate interplay among numbers of important chemicals found naturally in the brain and spinal cord. These chemicals are called neurotransmitter, transmitting nerve impulses from one cell to another.

Pain is a nature warning that something is wrong with body and the most compelling problems of man.
Through pain we are able to know when something adverse is going on somewhere in the body. A man who feels no pain is thus as good as dead.

Pain enables us to pay attention to our body. A man who enjoys his food so much and has the tendency to overeat may not know it is time to stop if his stomach does not send some signals through pain to inform him that he has had enough.

TYPE OF PAIN

1. Somatic Pain

This pain is caused by the activation of pain receptors in the musculoskeletal tissues. Somatic pain is usually described as aching. This pain is probably caused by a combination of factors, such as inflammation, repetitive trauma, vigorous stretching, excessive activities, flabbiness, etc. Generally speaking, somatic pain is usually aggravated by activity and relieved by rest.

2. Visceral Pain


Visceral is refers to as the internal areas of the body that are enclosed in a cavity. Visceral Pain is the pain we feel when our internal organ is injured, and by far, this pain is the most common of pain. Visceral pain is caused by the activation of pain receptor in abdomen and chest area, and also by problems with internal organ, such as the stomach pain, gallbladder pain, urinary bladder pain, kidney pain, and intestines.


3. Neuropathic Pain


Neuropathic pain is caused by injury or malfunction to the spinal cord and peripheral nerves. Neuropathic pain is typically a burning, tingling, shooting, stinging sensation. The Neuropathic pain usually occurs within days, weeks, or months of the injury and tends to occur in waves of frequency and intensity. The pain is diffuse and occurs at below the level of injury, examples, leg pain, toes pain, back pain, feet pain, and thigh pain. Some cause Neuropathic Pain include the following
